What type of care needs Aveland can support?
We are able to look after people with the following support needs.

What care services are available?
Aveland Court primarily offers Residential and Dementia care for people over the age of 65 – we also specialise in caring for people with physical disabilities, sensory impairments, Respite Care and Convalescent Care. Our goal is to offer nothing less than outstanding care to our residents. Therefore, you can be assured that your loved ones are in safe hands.
What facilities are available?
Our home offers many facilities to make sure your loved ones feel comfortable and at home. Residents can enjoy outdoor garden space, communal lounge and dining area. Most of the rooms does have ensuite facilities.
What kind of activities do you have?
We offer many activities in Aveland Court led by our wellbeing coordinator. We do things that matter and are more meaningful to people than just playing skittles!! We celebrate your birthday with a special birthday cake and decorations. We will also organise parties and other outside entertainers as available. We will focus more on the garden and outdoor spaces during the summer.
What kind of Food do you offer?
We have a wide variety on our menu. We have two in-house Chefs, who cook hot fresh food for our residents. We source fruits and vegetables from local suppliers. We do our grocery shopping based on the needs of the resident. We cater for modified food consistencies, gluten-free, diabetic menu, finger food and so on. You just tell us what you like, we will make it for you. Residents can have the choice of having meals in their room or communal dining area.
Do you accept furniture?
Yes – you can always bring any furniture that you feel will be useful for your loved one. Furniture that has sentimental value may help them feel at home when they move in with us. Of course, we first check that each furniture and appliance meet the risk assessments. All the electrical items will be checked before bringing to the home.
What are your Visiting Times?
We allow family members and friends to visit any time during the day. But we encourage you to make your visit during the less busy time such as late morning or early afternoon for the convenience of the resident’s routine and staff availability. You will have to do a rapid flow test to prove that you are negative for COVID. Please do not visit if you had recent contact with anyone with any infections.
Do you accept religious people?
Yes. We accept and respect people from different religious backgrounds. We do our best to cater for their needs should they require to attend any religious meetings or gatherings.
Do you accept Pets in your home?
Currently, we do not have a provision to take care of pets on behalf of the residents. We would consider it once the COVID restrictions are over. But we allow well-behaved pets for short visits.

Finance
What funding types does Aveland Court accept?
We accept self-funded care and local authority funded care. Should local authority funding is chosen a third party is needed to fulfil our weekly fee requirement. Please contact our team for more information.
Do you require proof of funding?
Yes. We want to make sure that Aveland Court is right for you and your loved one. We may ask for proof of funding in some circumstances to ensure continuity of care for the long term.
Do you require upfront payment?
Yes, we would ask you to pay the monthly fees in advance before moving in. The payment will be collected monthly by standing order. NHS or Local Authority funded clients do not have to worry about finance other than personal spendings such as hairdressing, chiropody or any additional purchases made.
What about additional fees and yearly fee increase?
Aveland Court aims to maintain a high standard of care, staff morale and home maintenance and services. We will clearly set the costs of yearly inflation and other necessary cost increases. Any additional fees, such as changing the type of room your loved one will stay in or the type of care they will receive, will be fully discussed before making those changes or not. We will only offer the best and most appropriate services for your loved ones so they receive the best care.
Contents and Damage Insurance
Our rooms come fully furnished. Any damages done will be taken from your account. Should you bring additional pieces of furniture or appliance, you can acquire content insurance to cover lost or damaged items. In the unlikely event that your personal item has been damaged or lost, we will cover for it if we have not set a reasonable precautionary measure and warning.
Can you terminate a resident’s contract?
This very rarely happens such as when a resident requires care that we don’t provide or an unpaid account after a period of multiple warnings.

We can arrange for you to communicate using digital devices by facetime, WhatsApp, zoom etc so that you can speak to them directly.

There are around 80 care homes in Torquay. Aveland court care home specialises in elderly care. Aveland court care home is located near Babbacombe and St Marychurch within Torquay. Aveland court is only a short drive from towns such as Paignton, Newton Abbot, Shaldon, Teignmouth, Kingskerswell, Brixham, Ipplepen, Totnes, Dawlish, Kingsteignton, Cockington, Marldon, Preston and Haccombe. Clinical FAQs
Can I have my own GP?
You can have your own GP if it is near to Aveland Court care home. We normally like to register you closer to us as there is a good link between our doctor’s surgery and pharmacists. Our pharmacist delivers medicines to us most days.
Is Aveland Court residential or nursing home?
Aveland court is a residential care home. We do not have Registered nurses on-site, but District nurses support our service as needed. All our senior care staff are clinically trained at a high level to spot anything unusual in our residents. We do have a good working relationship with local GP’s, pharmacists, District Nurses and other clinical specialists.
What happens if I clinically deteriorate?
Most of our residents get better when they move to us, as they get better support than being on their own. Our staff will pick up anything unusual or you can report to us if you feel unwell. We will call relevant clinical specialists such as GPs, District Nurses, Dietician, Speech and language therapists, mental health team and the list goes on. You will be in very capable hands. You can let us know your wish to go to a hospital or not.
Does Aveland court provide end of life care?
Yes, we do. If any additional support is required, we will work in conjunction with District nurses to support you.
Who will take care of my medications?
We would like to take care of your medications if you allow us to do so. You can self-medicate upon special request, based on a risk assessment. We will request, order, supply and administer medications to ensure you get the right meds to ensure your wellbeing. Our staff are trained to do medications.
