World environment day on the 5th June is one of the biggest international days for the environment. Led by UNEP annually since 1973.
Millions of people across the world engage to do something to protect the planet.
During the week our residents made bracelets from broken plastic beaded necklaces.
We then planted a tree in the garden, to continue with helping the environment.
Planting trees is beneficial for the environment offering numerous benefits, such as absorbing carbon dioxide, improve air and water quality, prevent soil erosion and locally a tree will enhance eco systems and communities by creating habitats and providing shade.
We decided on a cherry tree to add to our collection of fruit trees, which consist of apple and pear trees.
They provide food, shelter and a source of nectar for the pollinators.
In addition they can contribute to carbon sequestration and can offer aesthetic appeal.
Maybe a cherry pie too for the residents at somepoint!
