The last week brought Halloween to the home.
The residents enjoyed making paperchains and really loved as one resident put it ” getting messy ” removing the seeds from inside the pumpkin and preparing them for calving. With assistance we made some lovely designs of their choice including a peaky blinder. We also made a pumpkin with flowers for the hearth. They had a real satisfaction looking at their own decorations around the home. Our chef even made a Halloween cake which brought a few giggles.
Throughout the week activities the residents reminisced about their children and grandchildren and how they spent Halloween, they also talked about when they were young and how different it has become in the way of celebrating today such as costumes, trick and treating and parties.
These talks are always lovely as you get to know the person that little bit more and it creates conversation between others.
We also made some Autumnal decorations which can stay up until after Halloween. These were made from the fallen leaves in our gardens.
One resident loved having the decoration in her bedroom to look at from her bed. The decoration was donated from another resident to her.
Halloween isn’t just about scary monsters, witches and trick and treating it’s still about caring and sharing and coming together and having fun.
